 Toxias’s Labyrinth

Anyong my invisible readers!

This is the third time that I’ve rewritten my “About” section, but I think that rewriting is good. After all, I’m still changing and the world around me is shifting even faster. So, here we go.

In online circles I go by Toxias, which means “bane” in Latin. It’s a username that stems from a mmo called Runescape, back in my middle school days. I used it as the name for my very first character, and it’s stuck since then. If Toxias is taken – which rarely happens – then I use toxiasankea. Ankea means darkness in Latin. Chances are if you run into a Toxias, it’s me.

But don’t let all the bane and darkness mislead you! In real life I’m typically a shy and timid person, unless I’m with my friends. I love my friends so much. They’re unbelievable, and if I feel particularly free around them I may be a little wild. However, I’m usually the girl who takes up the “mom” role. I’m the one that tethers my friends to earth. One of them likes to call me “her sanity,” which makes her my…?

Anyways, my most defining trait is my tolerance. I try to get along with everyone, even if they irritate me. I also like taking care of everyone. It’s a deep desire of mine to make everyone happy. I enjoy being generous, and I can hardly stand it when people hate me. My heart bleeds for others.

So that’s my personality in a nutshell.

The most defining thing about my life is my relationship with God. My Christianity, if you wanted to water it down in earth-grounded terms. I am baptized, and I feel as if I depend deeply and wholly upon God to guide me through my life. My conviction in my faith comes from the knowledge that without God, I would have fallen apart by now under the strain of not only my problems, but the problems of the others that I care about. Although I believe in evangelism, I also believe that a relationship is not something you can force. It is something that must be self-grown and realized. Therefore, I don’t try to force my religion down anyone else’s throat. But if you ever have questions, I’m willing to try and answer them.

As for my other aspects, I’m Taiwanese and fiercely proud of my nationality. I don’t speak Taiwanese, but I am fluent enough in Chinese that I could go back and survive. I also have bits of Korean sprinkled throughout my speech.

I enjoy playing tennis and sailing, but beyond those two sports, I’m not very athletic. It comes from being what people politely call “petite.” As a stereotypical Asian, I play the piano, and I love it. I just get terrible stage fright when I play, which sucks for concerts. I have a voracious appetite for reading, and as you’ve probably already discovered, for writing as well. Spicy foods are some of my favorite. If you ever get the chance, ask Lai about his stomach bomb. It was insane.

As for blogging, I started almost three years ago, as a way to showcase my work. Over time this blog has morphed into an emotional dump, back to a writing showcase, and then now to a real, full-time blog. I very much enjoy writing, and this is just one more way for me to put my skill out there for all of you to shake your heads at.
